Connor is blunt and sarcastic, a monotone asshole that sometimes appears abrasive. Prone to angry outbursts and kind of paranoid, Connor is still weirdly private, despite being a very, very public figure. He's known for almost never posting information about his private life on his social media and saying very little about what goes on when the cameras are off on the reality TV shows he's appeared on.

Despite so much of Connor's life being public, it can be surprisingly hard to find concrete information about who he is. Nobody has ever managed to actually catch him with a boyfriend, even though he's had several, and he's only very rarely caught at public events like concerts or parties outside of carefully crafted PR. Because of the fact that Connor regularly dresses kind of goth-alt and the mystery behind his personal life, combined with his very blunt and sarcastic personality, his general fandom vibe is that he's a bad boy.

He's mostly an introvert who would rather be alone in his apartment than partying, which is why his social media presence is sparse and mostly confined to a weekly video for his Booktube channel, usually a review about a queer YA book. Connor's main hobbies are reading... way too many books and playing JRPGs in English with Japanese auio so he can pretend like he's studying. He's very much out as queer and comfortable with it at this point.

HISTORY

Born to a prominent American Dreamer, Dreamer Periwinkle (Cynthia Murphy in the Waking World), Connor was taught how to lucid dream at a young age in the hopes that he too would become a Dreamer. He was technically part of a pilot program designed by the American government to see if Dreamers could be reliably Awakened via means other that random happenstance, although Connor is not... aware of this fact. It was mostly a failed program, as the researchers mostly learned lucid dreaming did not appear to help Awaken Dreamers more reliably. Despite that training, Connor became a Dreamer in the bog standard way: he was attacked by a Nightmare when he was about 15 and woke the next morning with his Sandglass clutched in his hands.

His mother was overjoyed, of course, and Connor was happy too because it felt like he'd finally achieved what his mother always wanted from him. It didn't even take convincing for him to sign up with the Dreamer Union—his mother excused him from school and drove him there directly to register and join. This event was televised as part of the TV show his family appeared on, After Dreaming, which followed several retired American Dreamers and their families. There is no escaping the fact that everyone knows Connor is a Dreamer because of that. It's part of his legacy, all he's ever been raised for, and he hasn't really been... allowed to be anything else.

Prior to his Awakening, Connor was reasonably well-known as the son of Cynthia Murphy. About a year before his Awakening, there was a heavily publicized episode where he came out to her and she was very loving an accepting but uh. It very much did accidentally turn him into the face of Being Queer, which was one of the reasons that after a minimal amount of training he was grabbed as one of the front-facing representatives of the Dreamer Union's American branch. Thanks to his unique status as a second generation Dreamer, Connor was subsequently assigned to The American Dream, a team entirely composed of second generation Dreamers. Since the team is designed to evoke nostalgia, each member of The American Dream was given a public-facing Dreamer name that evoked their parent's Dreamer personalities.

They were turned into a sort of... Dreamer version of the Hype House, living together in an incredibly lavish LA mansion where they filmed three seasons of a reality TV show (The American Dreamers) and semi-artificially became influencers because of it. Connor was obviously already essentially famous for being queer and the son of a retired Dreamer, but being part of The American Dream really pushed him into the spotlight.

It also necessitated the creation of a persona for the camera, so Connor neatly got slotted into the role of "bad boy" even though he's actually kind of a nerd who likes reading books. Also due the fact that the criteria for becoming a part of The American Dream wasn't suitability as a team but the fact that they were all second generation Dreamers, their team is... badly unbalanced and kind of a joke among Dreamers. Connor's powers are more easily geared toward support, but one of his teammates has actual healing powers so PR fashioned Connor into a sentry. He is not particularly sturdy or shield-oriented, making him a poor choice for a sentry, but he has been forced to be one to fill a need on his team.

During filming for the third season of The American Dreamers, Connor took responsibility for a PR issue that was actually the fault of another member of his team. He was given two options: be transferred to the DU headquarters where he could serve a sort of "probation" period or go to a troubled teen facility and graduate from their program. Being transferred to Yumemigaoka seemed like a no-brainer, so he abruptly arrived for the start of the (Japanese) school year to spend his senior year in Japan.

He speaks very little Japanese.

DREAMER APPEARANCE

Dreamer Chiaroscuro, Connor's actual Dreamer Persona, is partly a very traditionally styled mahou. The main component of his outfit is the floofy dress with a sheer boice that's been paired with white trousers. All of the accents to his outfit, however, are stark black. Black combat boots. Black nail polish. Black ribbon tying back his hair. Light and dark! It's thematic. Also his weapon is a paintbrush, because it's also thematic.

In contrast, Connor's PR Dreamer Persona, Dreamer Forget-Me-Not, is usually styled to somewhat match his mother—who was obviously periwinkle-colored and had lots of pearl and lace accents. He wears a lot of heavily embellished suits in pale blue with white accents, usually pearls and lace to match his mother. It's like... High-Fashion Gay. He always shows up to events as Dreamer Forget-Me-Not looking like the it's the Met Gala and he's trying to win the fashion girlies approval

DREAMER POWERS

Connor is a sentry. In the context of his unit, The American Dream, there were five members split into two sentries, two strikers, and a saver. This meant Connor could afford to be second sentry, relying on sheer speed and judicious use of his ability to shadowstep and alter the lighting of an area to confuse enemies. Realistically, he should have probably been assigned saver as his role.

OUT OF THE SHADOWS (D-RANK)

The ability to step into a shadow and emerge from another shadow within eyesight. At D-rank, he gained the ability to pull shadows up to step into.

MORNING IS BREAKING (D-RANK)

The ability to alter the lighting of an area by making it brighter. At D-rank, he gained the ability to also make an area darker.

DREAM BURNS BRIGHT (D-RANK)

Connor's signature move. Drawing all available light in the area into himself, Connor momentarily plunges an area into total darkness before magnifying the amount of light he grabbed and setting it off in the area like a bomb. It does not differentiate between friend and foe as it purifies an area, blinding everyone temporarily. At D-rank, the area of effect is a six meter circle around Connor.

OOC PERMISSIONS

THREADJACKING: I don't care unless something is explicitly marked as closed, most of the time. Still, you can definitely ask me to make sure if you're worried! PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Connor is awkward about physical affection from people he doesn't know really well, but won't react badly to it. He's used to dealing with fans and the like, so dealing with physical affection is a skill he's learned.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Despite being relatively physically fit because he was forced to be on the swim team and having a bad boy image, Connor is not one for violence. He's scrappy, though, so you're welcome to try.

RELATIONSHIPS: Connor is gay-leaning bi in that he has a distinct preference for male-identifying persons over female-identifying persons, but cares way more about whether he actually gets along with someone than gender. Gender is like, a very distant second tier criteria.
